The Relationship Between the United Nations and Soroptimist

“Women’s economic empowerment is at the heart of the 2030 Agenda. We will not achieve the Sustainable Development Goals if there is no accelerated action to empower women economically. We know that women’s participation in all spheres of life, including in the economy, is essential to sustainable and durable peace and to the realization of human rights.” — UN SECRETARY-GENERAL GUTERRES, MARCH 2017

Accelerating economic empowerment for women and girls who have encountered obstacles – the focus of Soroptimist International of the America’s Dream Programs – is rooted in the agenda for women’s equality outlined by the United Nations. Central to this agenda is the Convention to End All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (1981), the Beijing Platform for Action (1995), and most recently, the Sustainable Development Goals (2016).

Our Mission

Soroptimist is a global volunteer organization that provides women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment.

About Us

Soroptimist of Missoula brings together business and professional women who believe in the power of collective action. For 66 years, we've been part of Soroptimist International, the world's largest volunteer organization for women, with nearly 65,000 members in 118 countries.

Our members are executives, entrepreneurs, healthcare professionals, educators, attorneys, consultants, and women from every field who share a commitment to improving lives through education and empowerment. We understand the challenges and opportunities that come with professional life, and we've created a supportive community where accomplished women can make a meaningful impact together.

We meet monthly for business and social connection, creating an environment where professional networking naturally blends with purposeful service. Our projects focus on providing women and girls with access to education and training—the keys to economic empowerment and independence.

What sets us apart is our three-tier approach: we're connected to international initiatives that address global women's issues, supported by federation resources and programs, and deeply rooted in Missoula's community needs. This unique structure means your involvement has impact at every level, from helping a local woman return to school to supporting international efforts for women's rights.
